CUARTA CONVENCIÓN DE LA ASOCIACIÓN

INTERNACIONAL DE FAMILIAS POR

LA DIVERSIDAD SEXUAL

(Santiago de Chile, 24-26 de septiembre, 2010)

Representantes de 23 PAÍSES asisten a la Convención: Argentina, Bolivia, Brasil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, E.E.U.U. , El Salvador, España, Guatemala, Honduras, México, Nicaragua, Panamá, Paraguay, Perú, Portugal, Puerto Rico, República Dominicana, Uruguay y Venezuela.

La meta de la Convención es fomentar y fortalecer el apoyo a nuestros familiares lesbianas, gays, bisexuales o transgéneros (LGBT). Ellos son nuestros seres queridos y también son tus familiares, amigos, colegas y vecinos.

En la Convención habrá talleres para que los asistentes puedan:

Establecer vínculos y alianzas con familias que apoyan a sus hijos LGBT y organizar grupos de apoyo familiar.

Informarse de cómo apoyar niños/as y adolescentes que no conforman con el imperativo heterosexista y de normatividad de género.

Tomar consciencia del daño que causa la homofobia y el heterosexismo, y desarrollar destrezas para combatirlos.

Informarse sobre familias homoparentales.

Formar aliados mediante el programa de PFLAG El Derecho a la Igualdad.

Organizar en tu país una presentación de la Dra. Ryan sobre cómo proteger la salud mental y física de los adolescentes y jóvenes LGBT para los médicos, enfermeras, organismos del gobierno, instituciones religiosas, colectivos de personas LGBT, padres y madres, y los medios de comunicación. El estudio de la Dra. Ryan, Family Acceptance Project – Proyecto de Aceptación Familiar, fue publicado en la revista Pediatrics en Enero 2009.

Las siguientes disciplinas estarán representadas en la convención: especialistas en psiquiatría infantil, educación, psicología, teología, sexología, antropología y sociología.

La Convención fue organizada con la colaboración de ACCIONGAY de Chile.

FOURTH CONVENTION OF THE “International association of families for sexual diversity”

(SANTIAGO, CHILE, September 24-26, 2010)

Representantives of 23 COUNTRIES will attend: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Spain, Uruguay, U.S.A., and Venezuela.

The goal of the convention is to promote and strengthen ways to support to persons who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT). These persons are among our loved ones and they are also your family, friends, co-workers and neighbors.

Workshops will assist participants to:

Establish links and alliances with families that support their LGBT members and organize family support groups.

Learn about how to support children and adolescents who do not conform to the heterosexist and gender-normative imperative.

Become fully aware of -and better equipped to combat- the great harm done by homophobia and heterosexism.

Learn about families headed by same-sex parents.

Empower allies through the PFLAG program: Straight for Equality.

Prepare the way for a presentation in your country of Dr. Caitlin Ryan to health providers, government, religious institutions, LGBT groups, and the media on How to preserve the mental and physical well being of LGBT adolescents and youth. Dr. Ryan’s study, Family Acceptance Project (published in Pediatrics, January 2009), is an effective guide to help advance the well being of LGBT adolescents and youth.

These disciplines will be represented in the convention: specialists in child and adolescent psychiatry, education, psicology, teology, sexology, antropology and sociology.

The Convention was organized with the collaboration of ACCIONGAY in Chile.

proudly. What’s an N? , I was asked. It’s for normal. , I reeipld, I’m as normal as anyone else considering we all have our differences. But aren’t you different, gender-wise? Well, that depends where you are. In some countries, parents raise girls and boys. In some boy are girls. And in some they’re both through their childhood. So normal is geographically relative. But this is here, America, where sex is gender and gender is sex. Well, maybe to you but to many millions of others, it’s not, it’s fluid and dynamic, as everything human. You thought I was going to say weather, but really aren’t we all like the weather, changeable as the day and over time? Maybe, but we need to know what you are to understand you. As the brillant speaker said I’m me as we all are ourselves. So I’ll take the letter N please. But that’s not enough. Ok, I’ll take the whole alphabet. I bet I can spell a lot of words to describe me, but in the end, they’ll all mean the same, normal. You’re not playing fair. We need a letter to identify and describe you. And it can’t be N for normal. So, if we’re not N’s for normal, what letter are you? I’m not a letter, I’m normal. But you can’t be an N, so you must be something else. I’m one of the F’s or M’s. It’s how I was born. Gee, how boring. Why not an F and M or a M with an F. Aren’t we all both physically, mentally, socially, and so on down the list of human characteristics? No, I’m one or the other. Ok, but you won’t have fun being so resticted, especially since you’re missing out on the other side of yourself. This isn’t some eastern philosophy. You mean religion, and the yin and yang thing. See, we’re both at the same time in the same body. Wow, a whole person and being. I’m not getting anywhere with you. I’m leaving. But you forgot your letter. , I shouted as they walked away.And are departing individuals decided who we are just by our appearance, or worse our birth, never realizing those don’t really matter, but who we are and what we do to be who we are that does. And I was left holding the alphabet all to myself, including the letter N.
