Restored Hope Network (RHN) gay conversion conference (i.e., Pray the gay away) will be held in San Diego June 16 and 17.  They describe themselves as “dedicated to restoring hope to those broken by homosexuality.” Thus, the importance of protesting their conference is to show them how strong the San Diego (and beyond) LGBTQ community is. We would like a strong PFLAG presence.

The conference is at City View Church, 8404 Phyllis Place, San Diego (Serra Mesa). On Friday, June 16, the protest is from 8:00am-9:00pm, and on Saturday, June 17 from 8:00am-6:30pm. This is a totally peaceful, non-confrontational protest.  Even if you can only spend an hour or two, all participation will be welcomed. The days will not be filled with people holding protests signs (although we will be doing that), but there will be entertainment both days.  That is where you come in.  We are looking for people who would like to speak to the group, sing, play an instrument, have a band, read poetry, sketches, and/or amusing stories. Just about any entertainment is what we are looking for and must be suitable for all ages.  Please send an email to sdcoalitionagainstconversion@gmail.com if you would like to share your talents.

On Tuesday, June 13 at 3:00pm, there will be an opportunity to make signs. Gossip Grill, 1220 University Avenue in Hillcrest, was kind enough to donate space, and the San Diego Coalition will provide materials for sign making.

The first protest will actually take place on Thursday, June 15 at 5:00pm at one of the hotels the conventioneers are staying – Hilton Mission Valley, 901 Camino Del Rio South – sort of a “welcoming party,” if you will!

An important FYI:  The state of California makes illegal any practices of conversion, reparative or ex-gay therapies to minors. We have a stake to protect our children
